After Anthony Martial, Manchester United Set To Sign Antoine Griezmann

Louis van Gaal’s side have made another inquiry about the availability of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, as per the Daily Express, although Spanish football expert Guillem Ballague has claimed it is unlikely the Spanish outfit let the Frenchman leave, with the transfer window set to close on Tuesday.

Manchester United have been linked with several top quality forwards this summer, including Thomas Muller and Gareth Bale. Reports even claimed Griezmann was United’s first option before they went for Pedro, and after Chelsea signed the Spaniard from under their noses the Red Devils have asked Atletico if their No. 7 is still available.

Griezmann was the top scoring winger in Europe last term, after bagging 22 goals in 37 appearances for the Rojiblancos. He also helped Diego Simeone’s men finish third in La Liga last season and also reached the quarter finals of the Champions League with the team.

The France international was also targeted by Chelsea earlier on in the season but the West London club dropped their interest after signing Pedro. Atletico Madrid increased Griezmann’s release clause to over £40m after the former Real Sociedad winger signed an extension to his contract recently.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have sanctioned the sale of Javier Hernandez to Bayer Leverksuen for £12m [via the Daily Mail], and Anthony Martial is also on the cusp of being a Red Devil – with the announcement set for today.

Although it has been claimed Griezmann is highly unlikely to join United before the close of the transfer window on Tuesday, a mammoth offer could change things overnight.
