Arsenal let Casillas know they’re interested

Reports from Spain today claim that Arsenal have let those close to Iker Casillas know that they are following his situation closely.

The goalkeeper lost his starting place in the Real Madrid team when Jose Mourinho was in charge last season. There had been some suggestion that it was a personal problem between the player and manager.

However, with new manager Carlo Ancelotti in charge, Casillas was left out of the team for Real Madrid’s opening game of the 2013-2014 season.

Casillas is Real Madrid through and through though, having joined the club when he was just 9-years-old, so isn’t looking for a move away just yet. But if Ancelotti makes it clear he doesn’t have a future at the club he could be persuaded to leave.

The goalkeeping position at Arsenal has been problematic for almost a decade now and Wojciech Szczęsny had a nightmare opening day of the season in the 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa.

Arsene Wenger hasn’t made a habit of buying older players though and Casillas is 32-years-old. But if the price is right, the manager will be tempted to see if a deal can be done.
