Brazilian Week in Review / Predictions of Brazilian Championship 4th Round

A summary of the Brazilian football week, and a preview of the 4th round of the Brazilian Championship, written by a native, for the public outside the country of football…

BRAZIL’S CUP

We defined the round of 16 this week. We had 6 matches that we can see below a brief summary of each match.

Atletico PR 2-0 Santa Cruz (Atletico moves to next stage)

Atletico PR quietly beat the Santa Cruz at home. A goal early in the match reassured the “atleticanos”, who controlled the game. When Santa Cruz looked better in the second half, Atletico PR scored another and set the game

Fluminense 0-2 Gremio (Gremio moves to next stage)

Another great match for Gremio, the team that has played the best football in Brazil this season. Even playing in Maracana, the team from the south of Brazil did not take notice of Fluminense and won again. The game was set in the first half, with both goals and a Fluminense player sent off.

Internacional 2-1 Palmeiras (Palmeiras moves to next stage)

Even losing, Palmeiras qualified due to a goal away from home. Internacional, second division team, made a good play by making two goals. But at the end of the match, Palmeiras showed that they would not miss out on qualifying for a lower division team and scored the classifying goal.

Sport 1-1 Botafogo (Botafogo moves to next stage)

A balanced match, but that showed the superiority of Botafogo that had another good match. The result could have been Botafogo’s victory had it not been for the refereeing errors. Even with the debut of his new coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo and playing at home, Sport failed to play good football.

Atletico MG 2-0 Parana (Atletico MG moves to next stage)

Another match in which  teams of the first andagainst second division faced off. Atletico MG won with authority, with the right to the Olympic goal.

Chapecoense 0-0 Cruzeiro (Cruzeiro moves to next stage)

Unfortunately, another match marked by refereeing errors, which cancelled out a legitimate goal for Chapecoense, which could have changed the result of the classified. Despite pressure from Chapecoense, the team failed to score the goal that would take the match to penalties.

Flamengo and Santos joined the classifieds above, which had already been classified in previous weeks. Next Monday we will have the draw of the quarter-final clashes.
