Breaking: Liverpool Agree Fee with Shakhtar to Sign Alex Teixeira for £31m

Liverpool have been in the pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira for past two weeks. The Reds already have had their bids of £24m and £28m rejected by the Ukrainian club as they stand firm on their valuation of £35m for the Brazilian.

But, latest reports suggest that the Merseysiders have placed an improved third bid for their target. Globo Esporte have reported that Liverpool have placed an offer of £31m for the 26-year old and are waiting to hear back from Shakhtar.

Teixeira has been one of the most sought-after players this transfer window, with Liverpool and Chelsea competing for his signature.

However, Liverpool has surged ahead of Chelsea in the pursuit after the player openly expressed his desire to play for Liverpool.

“I’m trying to be transferred in this January window, and they (Shakhtar) know it. We got a very good proposal, and are negotiating. But if I do not leave now, it will in the middle of the year. I’m ready, have been already six years in Europe and at Shakhtar.

“I have talked with my wife, also with my daughter. This is my wish. Be transferred to a major league. And they are in full agreement with me, I know that Premier League is very strong, and I’m ready for it. I know I’ll grow enough,” he said.

He has scored 25 goals in 26 games this season for his club.
