Chelsea and Liverpool loans – Rodgers excelled, Mourinho failed

This afternoon, Liverpool loanee, Fabio Borini, scored the goal which probably means that his parent club will win the league. After putting away a penalty against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. This ended Jose Mourinho’s incredible unbeaten record as his time as manager in West London.

In Borini’s absence, Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have scored more goals than any other players in the league, occupying the 1st and 2nd spot in the list of top goalscorers this season. Sending Borini out was a sensible move on Rodgers’ part because they could afford to let him go.

Rodgers first spotted Borini when he was a coach at Chelsea. He joined the club when he was 16-years-old and was the top scorer for the Reserves in his second season. When Rodgers left Chelsea for the manager’s job at Swansea, he signed Borini on loan. When Rodgers then got the Liverpool job, Borini was his first signing. Knowing that he had top class players in his position, Rodgers made the decision to loan him out.

Liverpool aren’t the only side to send a striker out on loan though. Romelu Lukaku was sent to Everton by Mourinho at the start of the season and he has thrived there. He’s in the top scorers in the league this season and has scored in loads of big games.

In contrast to Liverpool though, Chelsea don’t have any good strikers. Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres are a poor strikeforce and they have failed to deliver this season.
