Chelsea Identified Diego Costa Replacement in a £40m Rated Striker Who Scored 24 Goals in 24 Matches

It has emerged that Premier League club tried to sign Napoli frontman Gonzalo Higuain in the January transfer window.

As it’s obvious now, the move failed to materialize, but the Blues are expected to reignite their interests in the Argentina international in the summer. Player rejected the offer because he was told he was not guaranteed a starting place. Abramovich identified Higuain as his top summer transfer target.

Daily Mirror claims that the Blues have identified the 28-year old as the replacement for Atletico Madrid-bound Diego Costa.

The Napoli is in spectacular form in the ongoing Serie A season. His tally of 24 goals in 24 league appearances has propelled the Naples club to the summit of the Italian league table.

Napoli refused to sell their player in the midst of their league campaign as they are looking to win their first league title since 1989-90 season.

The Blues are desperate to add to their strike-force as Diego Costa remains their only recognised striker at the moment.

Higuain’s current contract with Napoli runs until 2018, and the club would not want to see the player running down his contract. They value their player at £40million and would be willing to sell him in summer if Chelsea offer to meet their valuation in summer.
