Chelsea midfielder denies criticising Manchester United star

Ahead of England’s friendly against Germany, the headlines in today’s papers revolved around André Schürrle’s comments about Wayne Rooney.

“Rooney is a great player, but we have good quality, too, in every position, and maybe twice, so I don’t know if he would play,” he said.

Schürrle has since taken to Twitter to claim that his comments were taken out of context.

“That’s not what I meant to say about Rooney!!!! He is a great player!!!!”
