Confirmed – Manchester UTD Target Signs Deal, £25m Coleman Could Join

Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their quest to sign Juventus full back Stephan Lichsteiner as the player has agreed to a contract extension with the Old Ladies. Juventus has fend off interest from the Red Devils by agreeing a new deal with the Swiss international.

LVG has been in the market for a full back as that’s one area the new Dutch manager didn’t really strengthen in his team upon taking up the manager role at Old Trafford last summer. The former Bayern Munich manager had hoped to sign a right full back to help his defence line which has looked shaky for a greater part of this season.

He has shown interest in taking Lichsteiner to Old Trafford especially when it emerged the Swiss contract at Juventus is set to expire in the summer.

Juventus would have feared losing their player on a free hence, have gone ahead to negotiate a contract extension with the 30-year-old.

Lichsteiner has agreed to extend his contract with the Turin club and has signed a two-year contract extension with an option of one year extension.

This will be a major blow for Manchester United who had hoped to sign the player this transfer window. The defence has been a source of great concern for United this season with the coach playing a 3-5-2 formation majority part of this season.

This has seen the coach use wingers Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young as wing backs in a five-man midfield with three central defender. This has not really worked as the squad is usually exposed by teams who just sit back and hit them on the counter especially from the flanks.

Louis Van Gaal will now turn attention to Everton’s Seamus Coleman as the Irish is also said to be top on the manager’s wish list. The club is ready to spend as high as £25million to get the 26-year-old right full back to Manchester.

Everton will however pose a great threat to any deal happening as the club does not want to loose one of their best players. But Manchester United will fight to the end to see the deal happen.

Signing of one of the best right back in the league would have been good for Manchester United. Coleman is still young and yet to reach his peak yet. At 26, he still has the best years of football ahead of him unlike Lichsteiner who turns 31 on 16th January.

Lichsteiner would have been just a cover for a short term by virtue of his age, but Coleman will represent a Long term prospect. However, he will not come easy as Everton will do anything possible to keep him at Goodison Park, at least for the immediate future.
