Conte drops hints he will recruit in transfer window to boost Chelsea title hopes

Antonio Conte has dropped a huge hint that he will use the January transfer window to recruit new players to boost Premier League leaders Chelsea’s title hopes.

The buoyant Blues sit six points ahead of second-placed Liverpool, they are seven ahead of Manchester City who are in third spot and a whopping nine points ahead of Arsenal in fourth.

Conte’s troops equalled a club record 11 consecutive league victories with a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last time out and recorded a ninth clean in the process.

The Italian manager is acutely aware off the importance of the achievement.

He said:

“I appreciate it’s fantastic because it’s not easy to not concede goals in this league.”

“Whenever there is a corner or a throw-in or a free-kick, the opponent can always have the opportunity to score a goal. But I think we can improve and be more clinical as well.”

Conte’s men have every opportunity to extend their lead at the summit over the festive period when they host Bournemouth on Boxing Day and then welcome Stoke City to Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Eve.

And despite their dominance in the league, Conte says he will speak with the Blues hierarchy to see what business can be done in the window.

He said:

“We must be very pleased for the achievement we have reached now, but it is logical that I look with my club for a solution to arrive in a good position at the end of the season.”

“I don’t know what will happen in January but in this situation it is important to talk with my club — we have a fantastic relationship — but I have my idea and I prefer to discuss this with the club.”
