Di Maria Set To Miss Southampton Clash

Fourteen minutes into an important match in Old Trafford, an important Manchester United player pulled his hamstring and was substituted. The substitution of British’s record transfer fee holder, Angel Di Maria didn’t stop Manchester United from beating Hull City 3-0 with a dominant display. Although, many felt it might be the end of Manchester United’s hopes of returning to the top but the other available players have proven to the manager they are equally good enough to play in Manchester United’s jersey. Substitute, Ander Herrera took the man of the match award showing the quality of Manchester United’s bench even with injury problems.

Angel Di Maria missed subsequent Premier League fixture against Stoke City and Louis van Gaal has confirmed the midfielder will be missing the trip to Southampton except a miracle happens. With a growing list of injury problems, Manchester United manager have learnt to be cautious of the treatment of his players and has recently been taking precautionary measures to make sure all players are fit for games; he is probably one of the few managers that take fitness as an important factor in accessing players’ availability on match days as he will not field an unfit player. The absence of Di Maria is definitely a big blow for Manchester United and they will be hoping the midfielder is available for the clash with Liverpool later this month which is more reason why he might be rested against Southampton.

However, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are looking good and they seem to be giving the team a new style in their approach to matches. Both players have won the man of the match award in the last two games with Mata scoring United’s winning goal last night. Di Maria may have not been missed now probably owing to the fact that the opponents are lower teams. The clash against Liverpool will prove a good test for Manchester United depth and Angel Di Maria’s availability for the match will be a big boost for the manager, players and fans of the club. The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed but everyone associated with the club will be hoping for a quick recovery like that of Marcos Rojo.

Angel Di Maria arrived in Old Trafford in the summer in a record breaking move and has since been influential with his top class performances. Di Maria’s versatility and adaptability makes him a big threat to opponents and the Argentine has been heavily involved in most of Manchester United attacking moves. He will also hope to be fit soon and not miss the busy fixture schedule for the Red devils as they look to make the top four for the first time in two years. Manchester United are currently fourth position on the Premier League table and with a point behind third placed team Southampton, a team they will face next Monday in an important fixture. Wayne Rooney also missed yesterday’s match against Stoke City and would be having a scan on his knee as soon as possible. The injury concern in Old Trafford is not getting any better and the coaching crew will be hoping to get a lasting solution to it soonest.
