Exclusive – Atletico Madrid president speaks on Griezmann moving to Chelsea

In a major setback for Chelsea, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has made it clear that star winger Antoine Griezmann will not be leaving the club in January. Chelsea have been long linked with the France international and he was reported to be manager Jose Mourinho’s primary attacking target in the transfer window.

“Players play where they want to play, and right now, Griezmann’s thoughts are not on a sheik or blue princess [Chelsea] coming to sign him,” he told Cadena Cope.

“His thoughts are at Atletico Madrid, he wants to be at Atletico Madrid. He proved this by signing a renewal recently.”

These comments came after the 24-year old winger himself declared last week that he is perfectly happy with Atletico at the moment and is not looking for a move away from the club.

“I do not feel the need to play in Ligue 1, nor in the Premier League or in Serie A,” he told AS Diario. “I am in Spain – I’m happy. Life here, football, I like it all.”

Griezmann is reported to have a £58million buy-out clause in his contract with the Madrid club.
