Exclusive: Memphis Depay held talks with Van Gaal over his future, LVG decided
Showdown talks have reportedly taken place between Louis Van Gaal and Memphis Depay in order to reach an agreement on how the player wants to move forward with his career. The attacker has looked uninterested during training and failed to impress when given opportunities in the first team.
After an exciting World Cup for Holland, Depay signed for £25million last summer and was expected to play a big part in Manchester United’s season. They had to fend off interest from several other clubs around Europe in order to sign the player, with PSG also extremely interested in securing his services.
He started fairly brightly but soon faded away as players such as Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial have shone in his position.
Van Gaal is reported to have challenged Depay to live up to the hype around him and prove to United fans why he should be in the starting lineup. He may yet get another opportunity to shine in this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Everton, but with the fixture looking to be another must-win match for Van Gaal, he might not be willing to risk another lackluster performance from the Dutchman.
