EXCLUSIVE – Star Striker Openly Talk About the Transfer to Arsenal, Also Speaks on Man Utd Chasing His Team-mate

Arsenal were linked with a move for Watford star striker Troy Deeney by Daily Star couple of days back.

The report claimed that the Gunners have placed a £20million for the 27-year old, who has scored six goals in his last 11 appearances for the Hornets. The Watford skipper has moved on to dismiss the rumours and claim that a move in the January transfer window is not possible. However, he refused to rule out a move in the future.

“We have still got a project to complete”, he told talkSPORT. “It is very flattering. My son is an Arsenal fan so he read it in the paper the other day, and I don’t think he is happy that I am staying at Watford. He doesn’t understand that it is not FIFA, and you can’t change the same day!

“But we have got a project to complete, and the gaffer has stated before that whatever happens in the summer, will happen in the summer.”

His striker partner Odion Ighalo was also linked with a move away from the club as some reports claimed that Man Utd are interested in his services. But Deeney has ruled that out too and has claimed that the Nigerian international will also be staying with the Hornets till the end of the season.

He added: “The pleasing thing from my point of view and from Iggy’s is people want us. That shows that we have been doing something right for the past five, six months.

“I think his comments [about United] were taken out of context a little bit. He isn’t going to leave in January. The manager and the owner have made that clear. I have just seen him at the school run and he is in no rush to get anyway time soon.”

The Hornets will open their FA Cup campaign with the third round tie against Premier League rival Newcastle United tomorrow at Vicarage Road.
