Chelsea Signings This Winter

FANTASTIC NEWS – Another Signing for Guus Hiddink as Chelsea Prepares Contract for World Cup Winner

Chelsea are interested in Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez and are ready to place a bid for the player, according to reports. Italian source Calciomercato claims that Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink is a fan of the player and is eager to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

The 27-year old is a versatile player, who can play in central midfield and centre of defence. The Blues’ central midfielders Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas have both struggled with their form this season and this has prompted Hiddink to search for a midfielder, who can provide a boost to the squad in the second half of the season.
The signing of Martinez makes sense as he can also provide a backup option in central defence, another area the Blues have struggled with this season.

Martinez won a part of the Spain national team that won the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euro Cup. He also won the Champions League in his first season with Bayern.

The German champions signed the player from Athletic Bilbao by paying his release clause of €40 million in 2012. He recently signed a contract extension with Bayern, which will keep him at the club till 2021. There is no doubt about the fact that Chelsea would need to spend some serious money to get their man from the German club.

Martinez missed the entire last season after he tore his ligaments in German Supercup game against Borussia Dortmund on 13 August 2014. This season, he has started only eight games for the German powerhouse.

However, despite his obvious talents, Martinez hasn’t been able to cement his spot in the Bayern starting eleven due to a plethora of midfield talent present at Bayern and his injury problems.
He is currently in his fourth season with the club, but has managed to make only 57 league appearances.
