Former Arsenal Captain May Return to England, Liverpool and Chelsea to Fight for his Services

Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen has failed to settle down at Nou Camp following his move from Arsenal in 2014.

The 30-year old, who moved to the Catalan club in a £15 million move, has consistently struggled with injuries during his time in La Liga and has managed only seven league appearances for the past two seasons.

Spanish publication Fichajes claims that the Belgian international is seemingly looking to move back to Premier League in search of regular first-team football and Liverpool, and Chelsea are interested in signing the former Arsenal skipper.

Vermaelen, who spent five seasons with the Gunners before his move to Barcelona, fell down the pecking order behind Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in his final season with the Gunners.

Despite being the captain of the side, he failed to make an appearance in the 2014 FA Cup final and was subsequently sold to Barcelona in the summer.

Other Premier League clubs Southampton and West Ham are also reportedly interested in signing the Belgian defender. He has also lost his place in the Belgium national team due to his injury problems and hasn’t featured for them since 2014 World Cup.
Liverpool is struggling with his defending this year and Jurgen Klopp already told press he will try to sign new defenders this summer.
