Javi Martinez To Make Long Awaited Return To Action

Since been missing from action August last year, Bayern Munich , Javi Martinez is set to return to the field of play come weekend in the Bavarian Derby against Augsburg. The Spain international got sidelined last season following a knee injury he picked up while on duty against Borussia Dortmund in the Super Cup final loss.

A ruptured-knee ligaments ended what was going on as a great season for the 27 year-old former Athletic Bilbao defensive midfielder cum central back, and he will now be hoping to put the disappointment aside as a new season starts.

The side’s coach, Pep Guardiola announced Martinez’s return at the last press conference,

β€œHis knee is perfect. He is sharp and has trained well. Javi is a warrior, he has no fear and absolutely wants to play. Though he still needs time but he is delighted (to be part of the squad again) and so am I”

However, the coach will no longer be able to get the Javi Martinez-Bastian Schweinsteiger midfield partnership any more after the Germany international departed for United in Summer. Both once formed one of the best midfield combinations following Javi’s 40-million Euros arrival from Spain 2 seasons ago, and the club was on a record-breaking spree because of their partnership. He will be on the substitutes’ bench against Augsburg at the Allianz Arena as Bayern hope to continue their perfect start to the season after winning their first 4 League fixtures.

Mehdi Benatia and Holger Badstuber will both be missing out due to injuries, but new arrival, Juventus’ Kingsley Coman who arrived on a 2 year-loan will be available for the game. The Bundesliga Champions head to the Champions League opening fixture against Olympiakos after weekend’s game.
