Joel Campbell & Calum Chambers To Play Tonight

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made it crystal clear in his statements on the club’s website that he will be making big changes for tonight’s League Cup game at Sheffield Wednesday. He stated that he will be giving his first-team players a rest to ensure they don’t run out of gas. Although Wenger also confirmed that Petr Cech will play because of Ospina’s injury, and Per Mertesacker has recovered from his illness and so will definitely feature,  still he might be resting a large number of Arsenal first-team squad tonight.

Two second team players that might definitely be starting tonight though are Joel Campbell and Calum Chambers as confirmed by Wenger.

These two are players that can perform for the club but have never really been given the chance to perform.

Chambers got off to a good start last season, but seemed to drop form after Arsenal’s first-team defenders started to recover from injury, maybe he felt the pressure of intimidation and having to fight for his place and he caved.

Joel Campbell is also a player with great promise but has never been able to do well enough to earn himself a consistent run in the squad.

However, Wenger said about the Costa Rican international yesterday that, “I like Joel Campbell very much for two reasons,” “One is that he has outstanding individual quality, but he is also a team player. He works very hard for the team.”

“I’m convinced he will get a chance here and that he will take it. He has another opportunity against Sheffield Wednesday and I’m hopeful that he will show that he has the quality to play for Arsenal.”

“When you get the chance, you have to be ready. To be ready, you have to prepare. I must say that Joel Campbell and Calum Chambers are two players who do absolutely everything right.”

“They are prepared, the preparation they have created will give them the confidence against Sheffield Wednesday and I’m confident they will play well.”

We can only wait and see if these changes do not backfire on Wenger for the match tonight.
