Leeds United Take Further Steps Into The Digital World

If there’s one thing recent years has shown us, it’s that football is very much evolving into much more than just a sport. Over the last couple of years we’ve seen record breaking transfer fees shelled out for the likes of Paul Pogba and Neymar Jr., but surely not all this money isn’t moving about solely on their football ability.

There are many other aspects that come into play with players’ transfer fees these days and one of those is possibly the marketing potential. This can be seen through various announcement videos online as well as at stadiums.

With advertisements and marketing becoming such a big part of the sport now, there’s one place where you can always expect to see them is alongside the pitch. Up and down the country you see matches with the backdrop advertising boards, some of which even showing running dogs on them. However, one team looking to take this to the next stage are Leeds United.

The Yorkshire-based club are striking up a partnership with market leaders ADI to bring LED perimeter advertising boards to Elland Road. Still recognised as one of England’s greatest clubs of the last century Leeds United will be getting a revamp to fit the mould.

This new partnership will see the state of the art system utilised around the whole pitch, as well as featuring crowd facing adverts. A fancy new mid-tier strip will also be added to in between the two tiers of the East Stand of the stadium.

The plan is to have the new four-sided boards in action later in the season, however, for the Carabao Cup game against Port Vale tonight will feature a temporary three-sided system.

On the new Elland Road additions, this is what Leeds United’s Executive Director, Paul Bell had to say: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with ADI on this project. The installation of the digital advertising boards will transform the appearance of Elland Road and improve the fan experience and fan engagement level inside the stadium,”

“The technology will also provide the Club with greater commercial opportunities and enable our sponsors and commercial partners to bring their advertising messages to life across the advertising boards.”

He wasn’t the only one to speak on the new partnership though as ADI spokesperson, Geraint Williams said: “It’s an incredibly exciting time to be working with Leeds United and we’re delighted that the club has chosen ADI’s technology to help transform Elland Road,”

“We’ve been designing and delivering digital stadium platforms for over 25 years and we’re keen to share our experience with Leeds United, to create a compelling platform that enhances the matchday for fans,”

On their search for top flight football, something that can help is the fact that “not only will Elland Road have one of the longest perimeter LED systems in English football, but the club will be one of only a handful to have LED ribbon installed.”

In a footballing world where the commercial side is becoming more and more important, the future definitely looks to be encouraging in that aspect for Leeds as they look to recapture the greatness they are currently remembered for.
