Anthony Martial Wins the Golden Boy Award

Man Utd superstar wins prestigious Golden Boy Award – beats Bellerin, Loftus-Cheek, Jordon Ibe or Origi

When Anthony Martial was signed for an amount of 58 million pounds, lots of football pundits claimed the deal as one of the most over-ambitious ones. And guess what, it didn’t take Martial to prove the critics wrong. Gradually he became one of the most vital players in United frontline.

It was Martial who appeared to be the savior of Manchester United on couple of occasions. Wayne Rooney, one of the best players in history of Manchester United, was out of form since the beginning of this season. As a result Martial had to carry a huge burden on his young shoulders. However, scoring 6 goals on 19 appearances might not prove his worth. But all of his goals came in critical moments when Manchester United were badly in need of someone to break the deadlock.

Well, Martial’s efforts didn’t go unpaid. He has won the Golden Boy Award. This particular award is given to the best young player in Europe. Tuttosport, one of the leading sports newspapers of Italy, announces the best young player of Europe every year. This year, the crown was Martial’s.

The last Manchester United player to win this award was Anderson. He won it in 2008. Last year Raheem Sterling, from the rivals Manchester City was crowned as the Golden Boy. Certainly this award will encourage Martial to keep up the good work and keep helping the team in times of need.

Martial didn’t win the Golden Boy Award that easily. There were strong contenders. A primary list of 40 U-21 players was announced before. Kingsley Coman, the Juventus player (currently loaned at Bayern) was the closest competitor. Also Hector Bellerin, the Arsenal fullback was another strong contender.
But it was Martial who triumphed them all. This news is certainly a breath of fresh air for the Manchester United and France fans who thinks highly of Anthony Martial. Martial is a bit of out of shape right now, but the fans believe he will be back with a bang and take care of the United frontline once again.
