PASSING STATS: How do Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Newcastle United compete in Europa?

Fenerbahçe, Benfica, Basel and Chelsea will all play in the Europa League semi-finals tomorrow, which may come as some surprise when you look at how poor some of their passing has been in the competition this season. Benfica rank 46th out of the 56 teams to play in 2012-2013, with a passing success of just 77.1%. Basel rank 28th with a passing success of 80.6% whilst Fenerbahçe rank 24th with a passing success of 81.1%. Chelsea rank 39th with a passing success of 79.1%.

Liverpool, who suffered at early exit at the hands of Zenit St. Petersburg in the Round of 32, are the best passing team in the competition this season, with a passing success of 86.8%. To give this some context, when looking at the passing of teams in European leagues, only Barcelona and Bayern Munich have been more accurate with their passing in their respective leagues.

Tottenham Hotspur, who were knocked out by Basel on penalties in the quarter-finals, rank 4th with a passing success of 85%.

Newcastle United, who were knocked out by Benfica in the quarter-finals, rank 12th with a passing success of 82.9%.
