Riyad Mahrez is Another Signing for Arsene Wenger this January, Man Utd and Chelsea to Lose Out Again

League leaders Arsenal have been linked to several names for the fast approaching January transfer window. They have been reported to be finalising a deal with FC Basel’s midfielder, Mohamed Elneny and are now being linked to make an official bid for Leicester City’s star, Riyad Mahrez.

Mahrez has so far scored a total of 13 goals and has 7 assists to his name in a total of 18 appearances in the Premier League this season. The striker along with his team-mate Jamie Vardy have been the reason behind Leicester title bid this season. They both share a total of 28 goals out of the 37 scored by Leicester up till now.

The 24 year old midfielder had recently stated that he would be staying at the club until the end of the season, but Arsenal is hoping they can change that. Mahrez has impressed the entire football world with his stellar season so far, and his former coach, Erick Mombaerts is shocked by his performance in the league.

Speaking to the Mirror, Mombaerts said, ‘I was confident he would be a success, but I hadn’t imagined that he would become such a major player in the Premier League so quickly. Riyad was a more complete player when he left Le Havre than when we first had him – he had made huge strides in his defensive play and was physically far more ready for the English league.

‘I was very demanding of him because I wanted him to be able to best express his offensive qualities. I would show him videos of Barcelona to show him what I expected of him and what he could achieve.’
The Algeria International is also being chased by Manchester United who are currently 6th in the league with 30 points. United who is struggling to score goals this season will aim to add striking force to their squad during the January transfer window. However, it seems, Arsenal are more adamant on landing the Algerian and will hope they can change his mind about staying at Leicester till the end of the season.
