Serie A Transfer Round-up

A round-up of Serie A’s confirmed transfers and the hottest rumours as we approach the official start of the transfer window.

Atalanta

Atalanta’s biggest challenge in the transfer window is keeping the band who secured an impressive top four finish together this season. However, key players have already left or are rumoured to leave in the coming weeks. Franck Kessie has left for AC Milan initially on loan before becoming a permanent transfer. The duo of Lucas Biglia and Andrea Conti have also both been heavily linked with Milan. The latter is reported to have told Atalanta that he sees his future firmly at Milan.

The only arrival of note is the former Cardiff City striker Andreas Cornelius from FC Copenhagen for €3.5 million.

Fiorentina

Fiorentina have already looked to strengthen defensively with the arrivals of Bruno Gaspar from Vitoria Guimaraes for €3.5 million and Victor Hugo from Palmeiras for €8 million. The club are also looking to secure permanent deals for loanees Carlos Sanchez and Sebastian Cristoforo.

Juventus

The Champions League runners-up have also started their business early with permanent deals for Juan Cuadrado and Mehdi Benatia. Cuadrado, who played a short but crucial part in the final being sent off, arrives from Chelsea for €20 million. The Colombian winger scored two and assisted six in Serie A for Juventus in 30 games as a loanee. Benatia arrives as a probable defensive back-up from Bayern for €17 million. There is a third arrival in Rodrigo Bentacur, a 19 year-old central midfielder for €10.5 million from Boca Juniors.

Juventus have also off-loaded some players to make space for the arrivals. The already trophy-laden Kingsley Coman has been sold to Bayern for €21, as well as Simone Zaza, who leaves Turin to join Valencia for €16 million.

Milan

Serie A’s big spenders so far under new investment, AC Milan have wasted no time building a new post-Berlusconi team. In defence, Mateo Musacchio joins from an impressive Villareal team for a reported €18 million. Alongside him, highly-rated left-back Ricardo Rodriguez joins from Wolfsburg. Franck Kessie also arrives from Atalanta to provide some much-needed midfield steel. Up top, Andre Silva joins from FC Porto for €38 million, a high price justified by Portuguese team-made Cristiano Ronaldo, who hailed Silva this week as Portugal’s next ‘great striker’.

The big rumour however, is where Gianluigi Donnarumma will end up come August. Following the rejection of a new contract, Juventus, Manchester United and PSG have emerged as front-runners to sign the goalkeeper who has been valued at over €100 million.

Roma

Last season’s runners up in Serie A, Roma have looked to build on a promising campaign. The defensive trio of Federico Fazio, Hector Moreno and Juan Jesus all arrive on permanent deals. The total cost of all three players comes in at less than €20 million, an incredibly cheap amount for one of Serie A’s best defences last season.

Roma also part with some key players from last year, most symbolically being the departure of club legend, Francesco Totti. Mario Rui and Wojciech Szczesny also return to Empoli and Arsenal respectively.
