VIDEO: Should Arsenal have gone down to ten men for Giroud’s challenge?

In the last minute of Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Fulham, Olivier Giroud was sent off for his challenge on Stanislav Manolev. Whilst his foot was high and he made contact with the player, it is hard to see how it was a red card offence. One might suspect Andre Marriner was trying to level the score after sending Steve Sidwell off for Fulham very early in the game.

Before the game, Laurent Koscielny predicted that Giroud would be on the scoresheet today, saying: “I think for his first season in England he’s played well. He scored a lot of goals. The first year is the most difficult [for foreign players] because we don’t know English football. I think he’s adapted very well in this country and he will be better and better for next season. He’s OK [after the Everton game]. He’s a professional. He had some opportunities to score for the team but I think he will be ready [to score on] Saturday against Fulham.”
