Why are Real Madrid fans booing former Manchester United superstar?

During Real Madrid’s 5-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, Cristiano Ronaldo was booed by Real Madrid fans. Ronaldo had already scored once but was presented with another opportunity at 4-0 but he missed. Team mate Alvaro Morata was in a better position to score so the fans turned on the Ballon d’Or winner.

After the game, Carlo Ancelotti explained his confusion over the fans’ behaviour.

“I understand booing every now and then when we have deserved it, but at the moment the players are making a great effort,” he said. “We have to keep at it and we need everybody’s help. But booing Cristiano is not so easy to understand.”

There were plenty of rumours that Ronaldo was set to return to Manchester United in the summer and following the English champions’ poor season he was unlikely to have any regrets.

However, there is no doubt he would be idolised at Old Trafford and he more than likely misses that sort of affection.
