17 Goals In 31 Matches Striker Set To Join Manchester United For £40m

Manchester United’s link with Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller has been a recurrent theme ever since Louis van Gaal became boss of the Premier League club, and the German ace has been linked once again this season. But this time around, it is not about the 25-year old, but his team-mate.

The Red Devils have reportedly met the asking price of Robert Lewandowski and United are willing to finalise the deal as soon as possible.

The Poland international striker who scored a stoppage time winner as 10-man Bayern beat Hoffenheim on Saturday, have been monitored by United dating back to his career with Borussia Dortmund. The Red Devils are short of firepower in attack this season after the exits of Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao. Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid are Louis van Gaal’s only available strikers at the club.

Lewandowski, 26, had an admirable goal haul in the Bundesliga last season, despite not being a permanent fixture in boss Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up. He scored 17 goals in 31 appearances having joined on a free transfer from Dortmund last summer, and helped Bayern secure a third straight title.

United have now launched a £40m bid and are waiting for response from the Bundesliga club before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal are also linked with Lewandowski, and the Red Devils will now be keen to move swiftly ahead of the Gunners if they are to sign the tall Polish.
