20 Goals, 10 Assists In 54 Appearances Winger Could Join Liverpool

With Liverpool selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona over the summer, it is a noted fact that the strike force of the club will be missing a huge chunk of bite this season. Though the team eventually bought Mario Balotelli from Ac Milan as cover but the striker has found it hard to settle and deliver the goods despite just leaving the Premiership two seasons ago. The Reds attacking prowess has also been dealt a grave blow following the injury sustained by Daniel Sturridge while on international duty with the Three Lions of England. Selling your prized asset will always take its toll on any team.

One player who as been continually linked with Liverpool is Pedro Rodriguez of Barcelona. Throughout the summer transfer window his name was constantly linked with a switch to Liverpool in a deal which never materialised. However, new reports just coming from the daily express is that his club Barcelona are willing to sell him if a club could come with £25m.

This is going to place top English Premier League clubs on alert because of their longing for the services of the 27 year old player. According to reports, after growing frustrated with been cast to the bench over several seasons and coupled with the reliance of Barca’s new coach, Luis Enrique in the attacking prowess of Lionel Messi and Neymar and definitely Luis Suarez (after serving his suspension). He seems to have come to terms that he is going down the pecking order.

He is reported to have grown tired of it and is said to be willing to take his bow away from Barcelona as early as January. This will make more sense if you consider the fact that Pedro has only been able to complete a 90 minute game in the current season. He is said to be willing to entertain offers from other clubs. In an interview in September about his future, he was said to have replied that ‘its difficult to get into the starting 11 because i am competing with the best forwards in the world’.

If Liverpool can manage to sign him ahead of the other interested clubs, they will be buying a player who is versatile enough to play on both wings and also play upfront alone as a striker or should Rodgers favour a 2 striker system in some games, he can play as a second striker as well. He has good positional sense which puts him in the right place at the right time to score crucial goals. It is on record that in the 2009-10 season he became the first player in history to score in six different official club competitions in one season.

Should he sign for Liverpool, they will be buying a player who has played at the top and well experienced. He has played for Spain in two world cups and Euro 2012. He has represented his club in the UEFA Champions League, World Club Cup and Super Cup competitions. Liverpool by acquiring him will be purchasing a hungry player.

His stats over the years at Barca are also a pointer to his abilities: 2013/14 season. 20 goals, 10 assists in 54 appearances. 2012/13 season 10 goals 7 assists in 48 appearances. 2011/12 season 13 goals 6 assists in 51 appearances. 2010/11 season 22 goals 8 assists in 52 appearances. 2009/10 season 22 goals 4 assists in 50 appearances.

Definitely, this is a player who will come in and instantly lift the team. His experience of playing at the top is something no team will disregard. He has played with the best and will definitely give the best.
