£28.9m “Very Creative” Midfielder Turns Down Barcelona, Will Sign For Manchester United

Manchester United are on the brink of an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the transfer of highly-rated attacking midfielder Hakan Çalhanoĝlu, as per a report from Bild.

Çalhanoĝlu, 21, is a huge admirer of the English Premier League and has turned down an approach from European champions Barcelona to sign for Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils in January, as per the report.

The famous German source claims a £28.9m offer from United will see Leverkusen part ways with the Turkish footballer, even though his contract at the BayArena does not contain a release clause. Çalhanoĝlu’s deal at Leverkusen is set to expire in 2019.

Çalhanoĝlu joined Leverkusen from Hamburg in 2014 after progressing through the youth ranks at Karlsruher. The gifted free-kick specialist is known for his powerful shots and would be a worthwhile addition for the Red Devils midfield, with Michael Carrick [34] and Bastian Schweinsteiger [31] now less mobile due to their ages.

The Turkey international is also being targeted by Arsenal, but reports claim Manchester United are ahead of all potential suitors in the race for the Bayer Leverkusen number 10.
