Arsenal’s chance of landing long-term target William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon has shot up by a mile, with the powerful midfielder admitting, in an interview with Portuguese newspaper A Bola, his love for the Gunners, the Metro can confirm.
Carvalho has been heavily tipped to move to the Premier League in recent seasons, with the Emirates the likely destination as Arsenal have recently sent scouts to see the midfielder in action, as per the report.
However, the Arsenal interest seems to have died down for a while now, but the north London club could return for Carvalho in the wake of his recent comments.
“I prefer not to say, but there’s a club with which I’ve always empathised – Arsenal,” the 23-year old was quoted as saying to A Bola, by the Daily Express.
“Maybe this is why I look with more attention to the Premier League.”
As per the Metro, Carvalho has a £33.3m release clause in his current contract at Lisbon, which could see Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger look elsewhere to other alternatives.
One midfielder the Gunners are also interested in signing is Celtic’s Nir Bitton, with reports claiming the Israeli international could be a Gunner in the New Year.
Next up for Arsenal is a Premier League game against Watford next Saturday, and Wenger’s boys will be looking to continue from their beautiful display which saw them trounce Manchester United 3-0 prior to the international break.
