4-2-4: Chelsea lineup under Antonio Conte revealed – Griezmann, Pastore and Bonucci in starting XI
Chelsea fans that were hoping for a change in formation once Conte arrives look set to be pleased. The current Chelsea formation hasn’t really changed much in the past few seasons with 4-2-3-1 being preferred by both Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink.
When this long season ends and Chelsea players head off on their summer break, or off to Euro 2016, Antonio Conte will be formulating his plans on how he intends to get Chelsea winning again. He always enjoyed a 3-5-2 formation when he managed in Italy but we might be set for a change when the new season comes.
Conte is believed to have told his entourage of coaches and scouts that he wants to play with a very courageous 4-2-4 formation because he feels it will suit English football. It could be the ‘beautiful game’ that Roman Abramovich wanted to bring to West London and could have played a part in Conte’s deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
So a new formation needs new players; the current crop are certainly not pulling their weight and a host of new faces could be coming with as many heading the other way. Antoine Griezmann is wanted by Chelsea amongst a host of other clubs. Conte is thought to want Eden Hazard and Diego Costa to stay, despite Hazard’s poor form this year. Javier Pastore is also wanted as well as Radja Nainggolan and Leonardo Bonucci.
Potential lineup: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Bonucci, Stones, Rahman, Loftus-Cheek, Fabregas, Pastore, Costa, Hazard, Griezmann
