£40m Rated CB Confirms Manchester United Talks

Real Madrid star defender Raphael Varane has revealed he turned down a chance to join Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid.

Most ManchesterUunited fans will surely be disappointed to hear this, especially seeing the way Varane has grown and done well at Real Madrid and has become an intergral part of the team.

Varane at Real Madrid has shown the qualities of a world class defender, he is still very young which means there is still a lot of time for him to get better.

Varane who has been linked recently to Chelsea revealed it was United and PSG who made a move for him In 2011, he said: “Manchester United? They had just signed Phil Jones in my position. The project [at PSG] wasn’t clear.

“The Qataris had only just arrived and it was all very vague. My first reaction when Real wanted to sign me was not, ‘Of course I will go’.

“I only made my decision when I knew that the coach wanted me to play in the first team.”

Considering Varane stament one could conclude that if Jones had not been signed back then by Manchester United in 2011 Varane could have considered coming to Manchester united.

Considering the form of of Phill Jones many Manchester United faithfuls would wish that Varane had signed for Manchester united. Jones has not been a big hit at Manchester United, yes he has done his bit in defense at Manchester United but when compared to Varane he has fallen short. Jones has had a major problem at Manchester united and that is consistency,he can have a good game today,then his next five games are below par. Injuries have also not be kind to Jones, each time it seems his getting some consistency going,he gets injured.

This has not been the case for Varane,as he said in his statement he only decided to join Real Madrid when he knew the coach wanted him to play in the first team,but even Varane will admit he did not expect to be involved in the first team so soon in such a short time.Varane joined Real Madrid with Pepe and Ramos the preferred starting pair in central defense. An injury to Pepe gave Varane his chance which he grabbed with both hands.Jose Mourinho who many believe does not give young players a chance, surprised many when Varane was given his chance.

Varane’s qualities include great anticipation, marks well, good header of the ball as well as been comfortable on the ball.This qualities of Varane helped him in winning the kings cup and champions league with Real Madrid last season.He also did well at the world cup with France ,helping them reach the quarter finals where they lost to eventual champions Germany.

Manchester united in future could again make a move to sign Varane ,although this may prove difficult as Real Madrid may not be willing to sell their prized asset. But they may still have to look elsewhere for a defender, especially if Jones does not improve on his performances.

Phill Jones does have something going for him though,which is his versality,he can play in central defense,left back,right back and even defensive midfield position,but he has to improve and cut out errors such as poor marking, loss of concentration,inconsistency, then his qualities can show. If this does not happen sooner than later he may soon lose his place in the team,especially with the rebuilding process Van gaal has started at Manchester United. For now Manchester united fans can only wonder what could have been if they had signed Rapheal Varane.
