Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic was recently linked with a move to Serie A. The Serbian defender is in the final year of his contract and following his struggles in the first half of the ongoing season, there were suggestions that the West London club might choose not to renew his contract.
But, The Times are now reporting that the Blues are ready to offer a new contract to the defender, and he will be staying put at the club.
The report claims that the new contract will of one year with an option for additional one year.
The Times says, “Branislav Ivanovic has agreed the terms of a contract extension at Chelsea and is likely to sign a one-year deal next month, with the option of a further 12 months if he plays a certain number of matches.”
The 31-year old has shown improvement in his form after the arrival of manager Guus Hiddink, and he will be hoping to build upon his form in the second half of the season.
Fans on Twitter quickly reacted to the news, but most of them reacted negatively as they believe Ivanovic is now past his best.
