£80,000-A-Week World Cup Finalist To COMPLETE Manchester United Move In January
Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo seems to have rescued his Old Trafford career after ditching Monaco move in the summer. However, the former Sporting Lisbon defender looks as though he could still be leaving the club as early as January.
According to a report from Rai Sport per the Daily Star, Napoli are interested in Rojo and could begin talks with Man United over the player’s transfer in the new year.
It is claimed that the Argentinian defender has been given approval to open talks with a move elsewhere and as per the aforementioned source, the Naples outfit will open discussions with Rojo in the coming weeks.
United signed Rojo for £16m last summer but the player was subject to speculation of a move to Monaco as part of the deal that will bring Anthony Martial to Old Trafford. But the Argentine ace turned down the chance to join the Ligue 1 club and United have no choice but to cough up a fee of a reported £36m for the French teenager on transfer deadline day.
Rojo faced the wrath of United boss Louis van Gaal after failing to report on schedule for United’s pre-season training in the US. As per Starsport over the weekend, Rojo rescued his career at the club following crunch talks with the Dutch boss.
Despite being assured of a United future, Napoli are still expected to go on with their attempts to sign Rojo in January. The Partenopei have shipped in six goals in four league games this season and boss Maurizio Sarri is looking to bring in Rojo in order to amplify his options in defence.
The versatile defender has featured just once for United in the Premier League – the 3-2 win over Southampton last Sunday – and also came on to replace Luke Shaw after the left-back suffered a leg fracture during last Tuesday’s Champions League opening defeat away to PSV Eindhoven.
Rojo is now expected to continue to play for United at left-back in the absence of Shaw, who is set to face a lengthy spell of up to six months on the sidelines.
