After Arsenal Tabled Bid, William Carvalho Hints At Arsenal Move

After failing in its bid to sign William Carvalho last summer, Arsenal have been handed a big transfer boost as the highly sought-after defensive midfielder has issued the club what sounds like a ‘come and get me plea.’

According to the Daily Mail, Carvalho’s club is prepared to do business for less than the asking price, with the player’s agent ready to broker a deal.

Talks between the two clubs broke down in the autumn after Carvalho was valued at £30m by his Portuguese team.

While speaking to a Portuguese publication, Carvalho said: “My dream is to play in England. I know some clubs are interested but my agent Jorge is looking after it and I am relaxed.

“Now my mission is to work in Sporting and they will be in charge of any transfer and my future. That is very important.”

Arsenal’s initial bid of £15 million was turned down last summer, and this new plea by the tough-tackling midfield enforcer could attract the attention of Arsene Wenger, who needs to fortify his midfield. Arsenal have been drawn to play against French side AS Monaco in the second round of the Champions League, and are still vying for a top four spot. Signing the 22 year old Portuguese international would definitely strengthen the team, and provide the club with the much needed physical presence in the middle of the pack.

Arsenal are already working on a deal to bring in 17-year old Polish midfielder Bielik to the Emirates, but that may not be enough to solve the club’s urgent needs as far as signing an established midfielder is concerned. The club is currently plagued by a number of injuries, and signing Carvalho who is available this window will be regarded as a massive statement of intent.

Wenger is also in the market for a central defender, and a couple of players have been touted in the media as possible signings.
