After Losing Schneiderlin To United, Arsenal On The Verge Of Signing 6ft 4in 25m Rated Star

Arsenal Are reportedly set to renew their Interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender despite the emergence of Francis Coquelin. The midfielder has been on the Gunners’ radar for some time, but injuries have limited his opportunities and also saw him miss the World Cup.

But the Dortmund midfielder is desperate to get fit and make an impression next season in the hopes of earning a move to England. Indeed, the 25-year-old has admitted the Premier League is the only foreign league that would interest him should he leave Germany. However, as of yet, Arsenal are yet to make a serious move for the player.

Should Arsenal intensify interest in the player?

Yes. Why? Because he’s the perfect tonic for the Gunners’ midfield three, and it’s not often tactical fits arise on the market. His technique as a tackler is sublime, and while his tracking isn’t quite on par with his brother, Lars Bender, however he’s still a reliable worker when it comes to the gritty stuff.

This is what Arsenal need, a player with great defensive instinct and the ability to truly shield a back four. Francis Coquelin has stepped in and done his side a favour, but he’s not cut out for the role and Arsenal cannot win a title with the Frenchman in that position.

Bender’s explosive runs and cutting passes are an added bonus, making him a unpredictable threat in midfield who can play in almost any formation. For all of the squad’s technical prowess, a midfield enforcer should remain top of Wenger’s shopping list.

As highlighted above, the kind of stars he’ll be looking at will receive plenty of interest throughout the summer. The French boss shouldn’t be afraid of spending handsomely to improve his squad, who are on the verge of offering a genuine title challenge.
