After Scoring 27 Goals Last Season, £30m Rated Striker Set To Join Chelsea In January

The latest revelation regarding a potential transfer last summer by the Sunday People via the Daily Mirror concerns Chelsea.

As per the report, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho discussed a move to Stamford Bridge for Olympique Lyonnais forward Alexandre Lacazette.

One of the deadliest striker in Europe last term, Lacazette helped Lyon return to the Champions League this season, netting 27 goals in 33 appearances for Hubert Fournier’s side. But the French forward has struggled to replicate that form, having scored just one goal for the Ligue 1 side this term.

There are now claims that Mourinho was in discussions with OL over a possible transfer for Lacazette, who was also linked to Liverpool and Arsenal in the summer. But the Anfield club opted to sign Christian Benteke instead, while Arsenal decided to pursue Karim Benzema but failed.

The Mirror say that both Lacazette and Lyon were reluctant to let the move go through. The 24-year old decided to remain with Les Gones so as to boost his chances of representing France in the European championship in 2016 which will be hosted by the Francophone country.

The Blues did bring in a striker, albeit it was a loan deal. Radamel Falcao was signed from Monaco on a season-long loan deal, with the Colombian scoring just one goal so far for the Blues, coming in the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

However, there have been calls for a lack of support for first-choice striker Diego Costa. After scoring 20 goals in the league last season, the Brazil-born Spain international has struggled this term, netting only once in 6 league games for Chelsea.
