Almost Done – £80,000-A-Week UCL Winner Set To Sign Four Years Deal With Chelsea

Things are never quiet at Premier League champions Chelsea , be if the football season or not. This transfer window started at a slow pace for the Blues , who anyways needed just another sprinkle of quality here and there to an almost perfect squad , rather than a radical overhaul. However , it has blossomed into a full blown opera in the past few days, with the departure of Petr Cech to rivals Arsenal  setting the wheels in motion for a multitude of deals in the coming days. The futures of Filipe Luis , Mohamed Salah , Antoine Griezmann , Radamel Falcao , Paul Pogba and Oscar among others are set to be decided this week as the Blues faithful prepare for welcoming a raft of new signings as well as bidding farewells to some within their ranks.

However, one important development has slipped beneath the radar amidst all this chaos at the Stamford Bridge. The Daily Mail are claiming that the Blues are in the process of offering an extension to the 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder Ramires, which would tie him down at the club until 2019.

The player , who joined Chelsea from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2010, was in the final two years of his deal at the club. Despite enjoying a stellar start to his Blues career and being a vital player for his first two seasons at the club, Ramires’ stock has fallen since then and he has since been relegated mostly to a spot on the bench. However , the hard working midfielder has impressed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to an extent that the Blues boss is keen on tying him down to a long term contract to keep him at the club.

The news comes just days after it was reported that Italian Champions Juventus were interested in signing the player as a replacement for the possibly departing Arturo Vidal. Interest from several other clubs including Inter Milan and Roma was also reported in some quarters. However , it seems that the Blues have acted fast in curbing all such rumours linking the player with an exit by offering him an improved deal.

Ramires made 28 appearances for the Blues last season in all competitions, which have been his least total in all of his five years at the club ,  but failed to impress with only a tally of 3 goals . With Chelsea being linked with big money moves for both Arda Turan as well as Paul Pogba , Ramires faces tough competition to cement a regular starting spot and may well have to contend with a place on the bench for next season.
