FA Cup Champions Arsenal have reportedly launched a bid of £28.5m for midfielder William Carvalho as per the Metro. The gunners are obviously in the market for another defensive midfieder and as such have been linked to many players who can play that role – Vidal, Kondogbia, Gundogan, Scheridelin among others.
Although Francis Coquelin has impressed in recent times for Arsene Wenger’s side, but additional power is needed to shield Arsenal’s defence. If Coquelin picks up an injury—which is almost an inevitability at the Emirates Stadium — Wenger needs another specialist. Although Arteta can play that role but due to his age, he has lost a yard of place and Flamini is almost useless while Diaby has been released by the club.
As such, news of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho once again being linked to the club makes sense. Chelsea’s success has been established via remarkable consistency and squad depth across the entire season, and if Arsenal are to reach such Heights then they need to make a major statement of intent this summer.
Carvalho would be a quality buy, particularly at a knockdown price, and could slot right into the Gunners’ plans for this summer
