Almost Done – Manchester United 80% Certain Of Signing £25m Rated CB

This season is already turning out to be one of United’s worst seasons in terms of injuries to key players; with LVG having to shuffle his backline on different occasions. The Dutchman’s failure to sign established defenders in the summer transfer window has also affected the team’s performance; forcing him to use players who are prone to making schoolboys error, and giving away cheap goals.

According to reports in the media, the no-nonsense Dutchman is set to finalise deals for Athletic Bilbao star Aymeric Laporte to solve the defensive concerns. The Express, quoted sources in Spain, who claim that deal for the 19-year old defender valued at £25million is close to being sealed. The report claims the red devils are as a matter of fact 80% certain to sign the player.

The defence is where the manager needs to work on if he wants to secure a Champions League ticket this season, and bringing in a player of Laporte’s quality will fortify his defence and bring a balance to the team.

Laporte has established himself as one of the most promising defenders in the La Liga. His no-nonsense approach to the game has also attracted other big clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea; two big clubs who may give the Red Devils a run for their money.

Laporte, who broke into the Athletic team last season, featured in no fewer than 35 matches that season, helping his team to a Champions League place in the process. His contribution to the overall performance of his team has not gone unnoticed, which is likely to earn him a call to the French national team.

The English league is a different ball game, and it remains to be seen if the 19-year old would be able to make it in the current United team struggling for consistency.

United have also been linked with a move for Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, and Atletico Madrid Diego Godin.

With the number of injuries the Red Devils have had to deal with this season, adding Laporte to the team this window will only help to secure top four, which is the minimum target for the Dutchman.
