ALMOST DONE – Manchester United Set To Sign World Cup WINNER
Manchester United could finally be on the verge on completing one of the biggest, long-drawn transfer of the summer transfer.
As per Spanish broadsheet, AS, Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos has a verbal agreement regarding a move to Old Trafford which could see the Red Devils fork out a colossal transfer fee for his signature.
This latest development may come as u surprise for some, with reports initially claiming a deal for Ramos could only happen if United goalie, David De Gea was included in the deal.
Although the quality of players United have recruited so far has been awesome, Louis van Gaal is still searching for a new centre half and this news will no doubt delight him.
Giving the credibility of AS, the news is likely to be true, even if not entirely. The reports making waves all over has also intensified rumours, and as the saying goes ‘there is no smoke without fire.’
The Spanish newspaper further said United have tabled a £42 million offer to Real Madrid.
It was said last week that United’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward claimed they would not sell De Gea to Madrid unless they get Ramos. However, Los Blancos are now set to capitulate. Marca claimed the Madrid chiefs had a meeting at the Bernabeu and decided that neither Keylor Navas nor Kiko Casilla is capable of being the club’s first-choice for next season.
Hence, they decided that Ramos be allowed to leave so as to get their target for the No.1 spot between the sticks, De Gea. Meanwhile, the Daily Star is reporting that Madrid boss Rafael Benitez has opined that Ramos will be staying at the club.
“For me, 100 per cent [he is staying].
“I insist that it is clear for me and the club, Sergio will be here. Football is a curious world but Ramos will be staying.
“I have a lot of respect for Louis van Gaal, but Sergio will be staying with us.
“He is our player, our captain. I would like to see him at the beginning of the season, because he’s a key player for us.”
