PAPY DJILOBODJI Leaving Chelsea

Personal Terms Agreed, 6ft 4 Tall CB Set To Complete Chelsea Transfer, Announcement Imminent

Papy Djilobodji is about to complete his loan move to Serie A side Lazio according to reports from Italian news outfit, Calciomercato. The 26-year old centre-back was signed by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho obviously as a panic-buy when he lost out on the purchase of Everton’s centre-back John Stones and Paris Saint-Germaine centre-back Marquinhos.

But Papy has seen his Chelsea career abandoned on the bench as he has not been used by manager Jose Mourinho in spite of the team needing options at centre-back with their recent performances and according to reports from Calciomercato, Djilobodji may be ready to leave the Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window after being frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities. Lazio have immediately made a move for the player as they are reported to have made a season-long loan offer for the centre-back and might also be willing to activate the £2.4million purchase clause that Chelsea have included in the defender’s contract and sign the player permanently.

Every Chelsea fan has wondered why Mourinho has stuck with the options of Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma and John Terry when the trio have not able to do enough to save the team and he has left Djilbodji on the bench permanently. He is a big defender who has the qualities to become a good centre-back in the English Premier League but Mourinho has insisted he cannot be comfortable with him on the field for Chelsea.

With Chelsea expected to go back for John Stones and maybe even some other defenders in the January transfer window, it might be meaningful for Papy to leave for some other club as his chances will only further diminish.
