Another Sanchez Situation? Arsenal Set To Hijack Liverpool Deal

If recent reports are anything to go by then Liverpool may be walking a tight rope as Arsenal may be set to hijack the deal for one of their targets. Liverpool are in the market for a defensive midfielder, but need to fend off Arsenal’s interest in one of their targets.

With his continued stay at the Santiago Bernabeu unsure, Asier Illarramendi is likely to be shipped out, but the destination is far from certain. The midfielder who has over the years found games hard to come by and has struggled to get full matches has been a target for Brendan Rodgers who wants to bolster his midfield. The departure of Steven Gerard has left a void that needs to be filled. Whether Illarramendi is the quality that they need is another question entirely as Arsenal seem to be interested in the 25-year-old.

All these may just be conjectures, but with the seeming failure to land Morgan Schneiderlin every name, especially those available in that position will be bandied with Liverpool. Arsenal’s seeming interest is also open for question as they appear well stocked in that department.

One thing that is certain though is that Illarramendi has been deemed surplus to requirements with new gaffer Rafa Benitez looking to ship him out to make way for quality replacements.

Asier Illarramendi played 41 times for Real Madrid last season with most of it coming off the bench.
