Arsenal have been tracking PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot for quite some time now, and it looks like the 20-year-old is close to a move to Emirates Stadium. Italian source Its Sport Press reports that Rabiot’s mother, who is also his agent, has flown into London to discuss a transfer move with Arsenal.
The report claims that Veronique Rabiot has already met Arsene Wenger to discuss a potential transfer. The 20-year-old has failed to cement a place in the PSG’s starting eleven and has previously spoken of his desire to move to a different club.
Last month, he requested the club management to send him on a loan deal as he was not getting enough playing opportunities with Paris club.
“I’ve asked the president for a loan move in January if my time on the field is insufficient,” he told Telefoot. “It’s something that he can’t refuse me – I know he likes me very much. When you train all week, you want to be on the field. Sometimes it’s not possible, and it’s frustrating.
“Paris is my city. It’s great to play here. If I could impose myself here, it would be brilliant. I would be ready to play my whole career at PSG if I was a starter. I would see things differently, that’s for sure.”
Rabiot was publicly criticized by club manager Laurent Blanc and club president following these comments. He was also a target of boos from PSG fans.
Ligue 1 champions rate their player very highly and will not consider any bid less than €20million for him. Serie A club Inter Milan were also in the France U-21 international, but now it seems like the Gunners have stolen the march in this signing.
He has started only nine league games for PSG this season, and a move to Arsenal could guarantee him regular playing time ahead of the Euro Cup in his country in the summer.
