Manchester United’s record teenage signing Anthony Martial is extremely close to matching a 43 year old record set by Ian Storey-Moore if the 19 year old succeeds in finding the back of the net in his third league appearance for Manchester United at home to Sunderland on Saturday. The ex-Monaco man became the most expensive teenager in the world when he signed for Manchester United for a fee of 36 million pounds which could potentially rise up to 58 million pounds.
The 19 year old now has an opportunity to match a record set by Ian Storey Moore in 1972 on Saturday by scoring in all of his three opening matches. With the extreme pressure on Martial to deliver due to his hefty price tag, equaling Moore’s record on Saturday could sky-rocket Anthony Martial’s morale ahead of the season.
United fans will not be so quick to forget the 19 year old first goal for United in the match against Liverpool, the French International encountered on a daring solo run and capped off the move with an exquisite finish to grab his first goal for the Red Devils. Then Martial went on to further prove that his goal against Liverpool was not a fluke by netting a brace against Southampton in his first Premier League start for Manchester United.
The 19 year old came under an increasing amount of pressure to perform at United and has done enough in three matches to endear himself to United fans. The fans at Old Trafford will be driven into further excitement if the 19 year old finds the back of the net again against Sunderland. Storey-Moore who joined the Manchester United from Nottingham Forest made his 42 year old record by scoring against Yorkshire, Crystal Palace and finally Coventry City.
