“Arsenal Are Keen On My Services” – World Winner Confirms Arsenal Wants Him

Schalke defender says he has passed the option of making a summer move to North London as Arsenal have been linked to the German International. Arsenal have reportedly made approaches for the defender, but he insists he has no intention of leaving the Bundesliga.

“Arsenal and AC Milan were really keen on my services,” he said. “But I have decided in favour of Schalke.”

Arsenal need top-quality cover to challenge Chelsea for next season’s title, something Howedes could provide, as Per Mertesacker doesn’t look a trustworthy candidate for this role next season. He is a dominant force at the back, where his concentration allows him to sniff out trouble before it progresses. Howedes is dominant in the air and along the ground, and he possesses underrated efficiency on the ball.

He previously noted a switch to the Premier League interests him, as reported by Archer: “If I am to leave Schalke one day, I do not want to move clubs within the Bundesliga. Schalke is too close to my heart to do so. But a move abroad at a certain time would be worth an experience. England would be my goal.”

Arsenal link to the German will not come as a surprise to the Gunners faithfuls as Per Mertesacker is hinted to be on his way out of the Emirates. One important quality Howedes brings is recovery speed, a trait the lumbering Mertesacker lacks which fuels reports of his move away.

Simply put, Arsenal do not trust the player’s services and are looking to replace him with another in the person of Howedes. The Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger is ready to ditch Mertesacker and give his place to Howedes alongside Laurent Koscielny at the heart of the Gunners back line, which is why we have been linked to a host of defenders this summer.
