Arsenal Completes Transfer Of £60,000-A-Week Defensive Star

Following in the footsteps of Polish Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, 22 year old Arsenal goalkeeper Damián Emiliano Martínez has gone on a season long loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 22 year old Martinez arrived at Arsenal from Argentine club Club Atlético Independiente in 2010 and has gone on to register eight appearances for the Gunners including four in the Premier League.

Emiliano Martínez was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium on the 2nd of August 2015.  Ever since his arrival at Arsenal, the 22 year old has gone on several loan spells at Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotterham United and now Wolves. At Wolves, the Argentine is expected to provide cover for Wolves’ number one Carl Ikeme at Molineux.

With the departure of Szczesny and Emiliano Martinez on loan, Arsenal currently have just Petr Cech and David Ospina in their squad. The Gunners will need to bring in another goalkeeper into the team due to the large number of fixtures spread over the course of the season. Usually, Champions League clubs like Chelsea , Manchester United and Manchester City have 3 goalkeepers present in their squad to prepare themselves due to unforeseen circumstances ahead of a hectic schedule

A typical example is last season Champions League match against Dortmund, injuries to Wojciech Szczęsny and David Ospina saw Emiliano Martínez made starting keeper. With just two goalkeepers present in the Arsenal squad, it will be sensible for Arsene Wenger to draft in a third alternative keeper preferably on loan. Emiliano Viviano has showed sparks of brilliance in the past and a loan move for the Argentine seems the best move for the improvement of his career due to lowly rank in pecking order at Arsenal. The 22 year old has what it takes to be a starting goalkeeper for Arsenal in the future and can only get there with more playing time.
