About a fortnight ago, the Gunner fans and family were thrown agog with news that emanated from twitter by a journalist and Arsenal enthusiast Emanuele, that Karim Benzema was on the verge of putting pen to paper for the Gunners.
For some years, the said Journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has been reporting about Arsenal but has always gotten the transfer dealings of Arsenal wrong. He once suggested that Kostas Manolas signed for Arsenal which eventually became false.
Just yesterday, Giulianelli tweeted that ‘Benzema is coming’ but it will be unwise to believe any news coming from the journalist as his claims are turning out unreliable.
There is no iota of doubt that Arsenal have been interested in bringing the prolific scorer to the Emirates throughout this summer. But, reports in Spain says that Benitez is set to sign a central midfielder Mateo Kovacic, pushing the likes of Gareth bale and James Rodiguez to the wings leaving Cristiano Ronaldo as their striker. However, Benzema is the only natural centre forward currently at Madrid and it will make no sense to sell the player without a replacement.
The Gunners were rampant in their victory against their opponent last Sunday but what was evident was their strikers’ inability to take most of the chances created by the midfielders. Benzema would no doubt be the missing piece in the puzzle for Arsenal as he will guarantee 20 EPL goals to the Gunners following his clinical finishes.
However, Benitez has further cast doubt of a possible deal for the striker as he told EL Pais that “Benzema is a great player”
