Arsenal GUNNING For the Cup – Ozil and Walcott Confirms Gunners Are Main Contenders for the Title

Arsenal has secured their second position ahead of Christmas as they defeated Manchester City 2-1 at home. They are back to being two points behind leaders Leicester City, and proved that they are serious about winning the title.

The scoring was opened by Walcott who curled the ball past Joe Hart for a top-class goal in the 33rd minute. The assist was made by none other than Mesut Ozil who now has 15 assists in 16 Premier League appearances.

The second goal was again Ozil’s creation, scored by Olivier Giroud, whose shot went between Hart’s legs and into the goal. Arsenal would have secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester City but Yaya Toure’s casual but sublime goal came out of nowhere and surprised the entire Arsenal’s defence including Peter Cech, who couldn’t manage to earn a clean sheet out of the match.

Except for last eight minutes, Gunners’ defending was solid throughout. Yaya Toure’s 82nd minute goal made the home side’s defence a little shaky, but they managed to secure three points from the game.

Overall Arsenal kept their composure against a big team like Manchester City. The players showed great commitment and spirit the entire duration of the match, and Arsene Wenger walked out a proud and happy man.

Walcott and Ozil spoke post-match, the striker praised Ozil’s contribution and the German took it ever modestly and dedicated it all to the team.

“Everyone did their defensive duties,” said Walcott. “Their goal was a stunning goal and came out of nowhere really. It’s a shame we didn’t get our clean sheet which is a shame for big Pete.”

“The thing about Mesut is he sees things on the pitch before other players see them so you just have to make the run. He’s modest. You need these players in your team, the amount that he gives to us not just going forward but defensively too. I think the guys are going to be knackered tonight. We all worked really hard.”
Ozil said, “All the team are happy and me too. I am happy to help the team so you see on the pitch all my teammates help me so I can play my game. I try to help the team. Today was again important and I try to give my best. The three points was the most important thing.”
