Reports according to the Daily Express indicate that Arsene Wenger may be on the verge of losing out on an opportunity to sign the one striker who has been on his mind since the opening of the transfer window. Injuries and inconsistence on the part of all of the Gunners’ attackers last term have prompted the French manager to seek to bolster his strike-force, and he has admittedly identified Real Madrid and France forward, Karim Benzema as his prime target.
The France international’s future at Madrid has been in doubt in recent times, fueling rumours of a move away. Wenger had indeed made inquiry into the player’s availability, and recently attempted to bring him to the Emirates in a big-money move. Unconfirmed reports at some point even suggested that negotiations had reached advanced levels.
However, for some reason, the purported move appears to be stalling; and fresh reports state that Manchester United, who have been monitoring the situation, may indeed be preparing an offer to snatch him from the grip of Arsene Wenger. United are also desperate for a striker, and could make an offer for him anytime soon.
Based on the development, Ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp, stated thus recently: “Benzema would be the right man for United. It looks like De Gea is going. Who’s going to come in?” He also added, “I could see a deal there for somebody, be it Benzema or Ramos.”
