Arsenal Makes OFFICIAL Contact With 6ft 1in Defensive Midfielder, Deal Possible
According to reports from highly reliable German media house Bild, Arsenal have made official contact with Borussia Dortmund in an attempt to sign Sven Bender from the former German champions. Wenger is apparently in the market for a strong midfielder who can play the box to box and defensive midfield role for the club.
Arsenal have already been linked to Sven’s twin Lars as well as Ilkay Gundogan, Morgan Scheriderlin, Geoffrey Kondogbia among others. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was said to have held discussions with AS Monaco’s Geoffrey Kondogbia and if Bild is right, it could be that the gunners have suffered defeat in their chase for the Frenchman and will instead try to sign Sven Bender.
Bender, 26, is a powerful midfielder who stands at 6 feet 1 inch tall. He can play in the box to box role and as well as a proper defensive midfielder. Should Arsenal sign him, he will be expected to provide competition/cover for Ramsey, Coquelin, Wilshere and Cazorla.
He reportedly currently only earns £41,000 a week which means wages is very unlikely to be an issue for Arsenal. However, Arsenal will not be without competition for the signature of the player as Liverpool and Manchester United are also reportedly interested in bringing him to England.
