Arsenal Needs Another Striker – Claims Ray Parlour

With the Summer transfer window few weeks to closing, Arsenal are yet to get a striker, as they have only signed Petr Cech thus far. And with the team suffering a shocking loss at the hands of West Ham United in match day 1 of the new EPL season, fans, pundits and former Arsenal players have all voiced their displeasure and “surprise” at Wenger’s outright refusal to bring in a quality striker.

Although both goals that sunk the Gunners are traceable to Cech’s mistakes, but Giroud upfront squandered the many goal-scoring opportunities that came his way. The Gunners have been without a top-class forward since the departure of Van Persie in 2012. The Netherlands international went ahead to fire the United side to an EPL title win with 26 goals same season, 4 less than the tally he had at the Emirates a season before.

Arsenal legend and former midfielder, Ray Parlour voiced out the concern on the minds of many,

“If you look at Man City, you know Sergio Agüero is their main man, for Manchester United it’s Wayne Rooney and at Chelsea it’s Diego Costa. Who is it at Arsenal?”

Arsenal have been continually linked with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema since the transfer window opened, but nothing seems to be forthcoming from the rumours. And it continues to look like Wenger will decide to finish the season with Giroud and Walcott as his only recognized forwards.

Olivier Giroud finished last season with 14 goals in 27 League games, such amount of goals cant help propel the team to a title-winning spot. The need for a more lethal striker is pertinent for Arsenal if they are to seriously challenge the Chelseas, Manchester Cities and Uniteds of the Premier League for the title.
